To ANC 3/4G Commissioners, We can not as a community advise the Mayor to build 'market-rate' (luxury) housing on public land as your draft ANC resolution suggests. Looking back, the community applauded the ANC when it decided to devise and proctor an independent survey to get community feedback on the future of the public Chevy Chase Commons. I encouraged our neighbors to take the time to fill out the survey and be completely honest and forthright in responding to the ANC's carefully curated questions. I saw the results of the survey posted on your ANC website and then, your draft ANC resolution following the survey results, that appears to be written well in advance of the results. https://anc3g.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/draft-ANC-34G-CC-Library-survey-resolution-11_24_23.pdf Now, looking at Point #17 and Point #21 of the draft resolution, ANC 3/4G is jettisoning the ANC's own community survey results and advises the Mayor to use our public Commons to construct and subsidize housing for wealthy professionals who don't need to benefit from the long term developer lease or sale of our public air rights at all! Again, correct us if we are wrong, how is my ANC making such a logical jump from a survey that has 60% of survey takers who don't want surplussing and housing (see ANC Draft resolution at Point #17) and then, advance the community's position in ANC Draft Resolution Point #21 that says housing should be built on the Commons and not only that but half of that housing will be unaffordable 'market rate' units. We don't want luxury housing on public land, and we don't want our land privatized (either by sale or long-term lease). Please take your critically important ANC survey results and send them with your full support of the majority opinion of the survey takers to the Executive (DMPED/OP) with a simple ask of those agencies to respond in writing to these survey results and to describe what the Mayor's next steps are to be in context of these results. If you don't do this, you are simply shirking your duty to your ANC SMD residents. You owe this to your community. Regards,
